Key equity benchmarks ended with modest losses. After trading near the flat line for most part of the session, key benchmarks slipped in the last hour of the trade and ended near the day’s low. The Nifty, however, managed to close slightly above the 12,000 mark. Investors awaited more clarity on U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement ahead of his visit to India that the two countries were working on a major trade deal. The domestic stock market will remain closed for Shivratri holiday on Friday (21 February).
Airlines in the Asia-Pacific region stand to lose $27.8 billion of revenue this year as they slash flights due to declining demand as a result of the coronavirus, according to a preliminary estimate from an industry body. U.S. stocks were lower, as losses in the Technology, Healthcare and Industrials sectors led shares lower.The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.44%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.38%.
